Music is central to our worship
We sing traditional and modern songs and hymns -sometimes accompanied by strings, piano and wind instruments. We have a wonderful Willis organ recently restored and like us is in full voice
Our church has great acoustics and is popular for small and large concerts – we have an ongoing programme of concerts: more details here
‘Jesmond Sings’ has been running since the autumn of 2009. Although not formally attached to Jesmond URC, it has the support of the church, and several of the singers are also church members. We are a very informal group, singing all sorts: rounds, folk songs, classical part-songs, spirituals, songs from musicals, and some lovely pieces from as far afield as the Congo and Spain, and as far back as the thirteenth century. We sing mostly for fun but occasionally in performance: we have sung in the Jesmond Community Festival each year since 2010 and have performed in Pilgrims Court, Castle Farm Abbeyfield Home, Jesmond Library and Jesmond United Reformed Church.
The group usually meets fortnightly during school terms, on the first and third Fridays of the month from 7.30 pm to 9 pm. New singers are always welcome. If you are coming for the first time, please check on the time and venue of practices by contacting our secretary Sarah (firstname.lastname@example.org).
