being Christians involves giving of ourselves and of what we have. Sometimes we give tangible gifts. We fill shoe boxes with Christmas presents for children in Eastern Europe as part of the Samaritan’s Purse “Operation Christmas Child”. We send harvest gifts to asylum seekers or the People’s Kitchen.
Sometimes we give money: the distribution is decided by all members together in the Church Meeting. From our common budget each year, we donate money to support a woman missionary in Turkey through World Evangelization in Christ and we also support two children through World Vision.
Our retiring offerings tend to focus on local projects and those with whom we have some personal connection. We also raise money through occasional appeals and a programme of summer concerts.
Prominent among these are our collections for the “Commitment for Life” programme of the United Reformed Church. Through this we support projects of Christian Aid and take a particular interest in work in Bangladesh.
