‘Jesmond Sings’ is a small, friendly, group of singers that has been running since the autumn of 2009. Although not formally attached to Jesmond URC, it has the support of the church, and several of the twelve or so singers are also church members. We are a very informal group, open to anyone who wants to sing, and singing all sorts: rounds, folk songs, classical part-songs, spirituals, songs from musicals, and some lovely pieces from as far afield as the Congo and Spain, and as far back as the thirteenth century. Some pieces are unaccompanied, others accompanied by bodhran and/or piano. We sing mostly for fun but enjoy contributing music to community events such as the lighting of the Christmas Tree, New Year wassailing in the Community Orchard, and events at Jesmond Library and Pilgrims Court.
The group usually meets fortnightly during school terms, on the first and third Fridays of the month from 7.30 pm to 9 pm. New singers are always welcome. If you are coming for the first time, please check on the time and venue of practices by contacting our secretary Sarah (firstname.lastname@example.org).
